When do Primalist DPS abilities become useful?

I've played around with various primalist souls and see benefits to the tank and healer souls though I wouldn't say I like either of them as much as the same roles from other classes.

But every DPS I soul I try I see damage listed that is *significantly* lower than the starter channeled damage ability from the healer soul.

Either I am misreading the numbers, most of the abilities are inferior to having a 0 point healer soul and using that to DPS with, or middle to late tree buffs/debuffs/enhancements make the DPS souls pump out more damage.

I'm guessing the latter - do the DPS souls become better damage dealing while leveling or do they come into their own close to or at 65?
