Glyph Insta-crash

So not long ago, Glyph just started refusing to work for me at all. Nothing changed on my system, but Glyph updated and then simply would no longer start.

Glyphclient.exe would get launched, then spawn GlyphCrashHandler.exe, that spawns another Glyphclient.exe, and then they all shut down.

Nothing helps. Uninstalled, reinstalled, cleaned, deleted all traces, it still does exactly the same thing.

Anyways, the other day I got adventurous and decided to update my video drivers. I'm using an R9 290, and have been using Catalyst 15.7.1 since last year with no issues from any game, but what the heck. Anyways, after installing the new AMD Crimson 16.6.1... now Glyph starts. WTH is the stupid *updater* program doing that causes it to have issues with video drivers? There shouldn't be anything going on besides some basic WDM calls. And *nothing else* has ever had a problem, just Glyph and whatever recent update it was.

And, just to pursue reversability, I had to roll back to 15.7.1 (because Crimson made Fallout 4's mouse move like syrup, plus it would get stuck at 100% load usage on the desktop for some reason, not good.) Lo and behold, Glyph is back to crashing instantly.

Soooo, I thought maybe that might help your programmers identify at least something that changed in their program which is causing issues for some people. And as for the rest of us, try a video driver update I guess, even though that should not reasonably have any effect on such a stupid little patcher program... but there you go.

In the mean time, no Rift, since you've dropped support for just logging in without stupid Glyph. I'm glad you worked out all the bugs before you did that!

Let's block ads! (Why?)
