Question About Crit Power vs Spell Crit Power

My question is, since I only do ranged attacks (spells) and never do melee (up close physical), wouldn't it make more sense to focus on Spell Crit rather than CP?

Attack Power / Spell Power determines the baseline damage your abilities do.

Physical Crit / Spell Crit rating determines how often you get critical hits.

Crit Power determines how much extra damage you do when you get a critical hit.

Your class's main stat will grant it crit rating (e.g. INT for mages, WIS for clerics, etc) and all of your class's gear will be heavy in that stat, which means you'll naturally increase your crit rating, i.e. how often you get critical hits. For that reason, you want to maximise how much damage those critical hits do, and you do that by getting your crit power to soft cap, and then by adding AP/SP (to increase base damage and crit damage) or PhysCrit/SpellCrit (to increase how often you get critical hits.

TL;DR - If you're just starting to gear up, CP is your friend.
