So, I've been toodling around on my level 65's for a while now since being back, and I've been doing some PvP because its kinda fun and maor currencies pl0x.
That said, I've been noticing that the only people that are actually very much use out there are in top end raid gear and can spam out 15-25k hits like they're no big thing, whereas I, in my slapdash mix of expert and T1 gear, can only hope to one day survive long enough to maybe even see if I do damage.
So, that last bit was slight hyperbole, but I emphasize the word slight.
I've been at it for weeks. I've tinkered builds, I've tried all kinds of things with hybrids and going support/heals so I can at least feel like my midget self is contributing something in the field of top geared titans, but no.
No, I really don't feel like I'm contributing anything at all. I have a sheet of ricepaper's chance in a nuclear explosion of actually doing any good DPSing.
Now, before anybody gives me the kindergarten lecture on 'did you turn your computer off and on? Are you wearing gear? Did you accidentally equip a dim item in your weapon slot?' spiel, I know all that. I know how to gear and what the stats are and even what they do. I use runes, I've got my reps high enough to have all (yes, all) the extra runes for my stuff, I use dream orbs, I've gotten a T1 mainhand (2h staff, as I'm rolling around on my mage) and so on.
Point is, I'm on top of all that.
The problem I'm seeing here is that the only way to be more than half a character in a warfront is to be top geared, or close enough to being. If you're not in full T2 or better, you might as well just hop around, try to cap objectives if you can but mostly follow someone around that's moving at +45% speed and turning into an ice zerker every 10 seconds, because they're the ones that're going to be able to survive being looked at.
This is a problem. Sure, anyone can hop into pvp and try if you're in gear like mine or, god help you, worse...but you'll be up against people with 10-20k more HP than you that do twice as much damage as you.
Get your build right, tweak it all to perfection and enjoy the futility, because to be truly useful in PVP, you now have to be a top end raider (love the logic of THAT one).
So, my proposed fix is this, and I know that pretty much nobody is going to like it.
Either provide some decent bolstering to bring lower geared folks up to a more functional parity or normalize gear and stats in warfronts. That's right. Put absolutely everyone on a more equal playing field. Let skill at building your roles and playing them determine who wins and loses, because right now, I feel like its Player versus Who's Had The Most Time To Farm Endgame.
Is that fun to someone? By 'someone' I mean someone with a respectable opinion.
Because all that inclines me to do is go 'Eh. Well that's crap' and not care about doing well in warfronts.
I'll do them because lolcurrency, but I won't care much until I have some real gear, and probably not even then. It makes no difference to me at all what my ELO is. If I spam enough WF's in an evening, I'll eventually be part of a winning team, get my currency for the day and be off to things I actually care about.
Is that intended? Is that how you want it to be?
