In light of the number of posts both here in the tech forums and over at reddit, I am very disappointed that Trion is not able to use Glyph to communicate:
a) scheduled downtime
b) unscheduled server downtime
c) other status updates
As of this writing, if you try to play RIFT, Glyph gives no indication there is an issue. The first thing you notice is RIFT giving a big scary warning of "Failed to connect to server".
Users can (and do) interpret this as meaning all sorts of things, from firewalls being dodgy, ISP's being bad and of course RIFT servers down.
Yes, you can goto the shard status forum, but I take the stance that this should be displayed within the launcher that everyone can see along with links to the appropriate Dev responses.
See the Blizzard Battle.net launcher for an example of this done right.
